Passport Offices and Expedited Passports in Kansas
Kansas has no State Department passport agency today, though one is planned for Kansas City. Most Kansans apply for a first passport at a post office or a county clerk's office, and travelers in a hurry either book an out-of-state agency or use a registered courier such as Allstate Passports & Visas. This page covers 11 Kansas communities, explains each option, and shows how to get a Kansas birth certificate in Topeka.

Passport acceptance facilities
You go in person to an acceptance facility for a first passport, a passport for a child, or to replace a lost or stolen one. Across Kansas many post offices and county offices offer this, often by appointment. The city pages above list the facilities nearby.
Come with Form DS-11 unsigned, a certified birth certificate or other proof of U.S. citizenship, a photo ID plus a photocopy, and one passport photo. You pay the State Department fee and a separate facility fee.
The nearest passport agencies
From Wichita, the Dallas Passport Agency is the closest, roughly five and a half hours away. From the Kansas City area, every current agency is several hundred miles away. The State Department plans a Kansas City Passport Agency, so check travel.state.gov for its opening date. Agencies see applicants by appointment only, and only if they travel internationally within 14 days or need a foreign visa within 28 days. How to book an agency appointment.

Birth certificates in Kansas
Kansas birth certificates come from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Office of Vital Statistics, which has records from July 1911. Each certified copy costs $20, including extra copies of the same record. The office in the Curtis State Office Building, 1000 SW Jackson, Suite 120, in Topeka has walk-in service on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can also order by mail, or by phone or online with an expedited service fee.
Kansas birth records are not public. A certified copy is released to the person named, immediate family, a legal representative, or someone who can prove a direct interest, and you need a current government photo ID. Details are on the Kansas Office of Vital Statistics birth certificate page.
