Emergency passport FAQ
Still unsure? Call (800) 672-1015 or text (206) 522-5995.
Our Time Critical service takes 4 business days from the day your documents arrive, plus overnight return shipping. If you fly sooner, call us: same-day pickup at a FedEx Ship Center or an airport cargo desk can sometimes close the gap.

Sometimes, but only directly from the government and only in a real emergency. A U.S. passport agency can occasionally issue a passport the same day if you have a qualifying appointment, complete documents and proof of imminent travel. Appointments are limited and not guaranteed. Through Allstate, the fastest option is Time Critical, which gets your passport back as quick as 4 business days. If you’re traveling sooner than that, call us at (800) 672-1015 and we’ll tell you honestly whether an agency appointment is your best route.
Call us right away at (800) 672-1015, every day from 8 AM to 7 PM Pacific Time. With only two days, your realistic route is a passport agency appointment. If it’s a family emergency, see ‘What if a family member abroad is seriously ill or has died?’ below. Otherwise, we’ll help you check whether an urgent appointment is possible and what to bring, so you don’t lose a day. If no appointment is available, it may be worth moving your flight by a few days; with Time Critical we can often get your passport back as quick as 4 business days.
For new, child, and lost or stolen passports, yes. Send a copy of your flight itinerary, e-ticket or reservation showing your departure date and international destination. Renewals and our other services don’t need it. If you’re going to a passport agency yourself, they’ll ask for it too, and if you’re traveling for a family emergency, bring proof of the emergency as well.
We’re sorry you’re facing this. The State Department offers special appointments for life-or-death emergencies: an immediate family member has died, is dying or in hospice care, or has a life-threatening illness or injury. Immediate family means a parent, legal guardian, child, spouse, sibling or grandparent. These emergency passports can be processed within 72 hours. To book one, call the State Department at 1-877-487-2778 on weekdays, or 1-202-647-4000 after hours. Bring your passport application and documents, proof of the emergency (such as a death certificate, a statement from a mortuary, or a signed letter from a hospital or doctor, in English or translated), and proof of your travel. If you’d like help getting your documents ready quickly, call us at (800) 672-1015.
