Getting a passport in New Orleans
The New Orleans Passport Center works by appointment and only for urgent cases: international travel within 14 days, or a visa due within 28. It's the only State Department passport office in Louisiana. A first passport or a child's application goes through an acceptance facility, and New Orleans has four post offices that hold passport appointments: the main office at 701 Loyola Ave, Uptown Station at 2000 Louisiana Ave, Carrollton at 3400 S Carrollton Ave, and Algiers at 3901 MacArthur Blvd on the West Bank. All four hold Saturday appointments as well as weekday ones. For a certified birth certificate, Louisiana lets participating clerks of court print any Louisiana birth, for an extra clerk fee; the nearest is the Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court at 100 Huey P. Long Ave in Gretna. Metairie, Slidell and Mandeville have their own pages.
