Getting a passport in Nevada
Nevada has no State Department passport agency, so travelers in a hurry look to California: Los Angeles from Las Vegas, and San Francisco from Reno. Most Nevadans apply for a first passport at a post office or a county clerk's office. A registered courier such as Allstate Passports & Visas is another option. This page covers 12 Nevada communities, explains each option, and shows the three places to get a Nevada birth certificate.
Acceptance facilities in Nevada
You apply in person at an acceptance facility for a first passport, a passport for a child, or to replace a lost or stolen one. In Nevada these are mostly post offices and some county offices, often by appointment. The city pages above list the facilities near you.
Bring Form DS-11 but leave it unsigned, a certified birth certificate or other proof of citizenship, a photo ID and a copy of it, and a passport photo. You pay a State Department fee and a facility fee.
The nearest passport agencies
From Las Vegas, Henderson and Southern Nevada, the Los Angeles Passport Agency is the closest, about four hours by car. From Reno, Sparks and Carson City, the San Francisco Passport Agency is nearer, roughly three and a half hours away. Both see applicants by appointment only, and only if they travel internationally within 14 days or need a foreign visa within 28 days. How to book an agency appointment.
Birth certificates in Nevada
Nevada has three main places to order. The state Office of Vital Records at 4150 Technology Way, Suite 104, in Carson City issues certificates for any Nevada birth for $25 each. The Southern Nevada Health District handles Clark County births from 1973 on, charging $38 for the first copy (including a $13 registration fee) and $25 for each extra copy, and does not offer same-day service. The Washoe County Health District in Reno charges $25 per copy. All three take mail orders, and online orders go through VitalChek.
You must show a direct and tangible interest, with proof of your relationship to the person named, and valid ID. Watch out for third-party websites that charge high fees to process orders. Details are on the Nevada Office of Vital Records FAQ page.

Call (800) 672-1015 or text (206) 522-5995.
No. From Las Vegas, the closest State Department agency is in Los Angeles. From Reno and Carson City, it is in San Francisco. Both see people by appointment only.
From the Southern Nevada Health District, which has Clark County births from 1973 on, or from the state Office of Vital Records in Carson City. The health district charges $38 for the first copy.
Yes, if you qualify. The State Department's online renewal follows the same rules in every state and is for adults renewing a regular passport with no trip soon. If your trip is close, an agency appointment or a registered courier is quicker.
Not from the Southern Nevada Health District, which does not offer same-day service. Check with the state office in Carson City or the Washoe County Health District for in-person options.
