Passport Offices and Expedited Passports in Texas

Texas has three State Department passport agencies, in Houston, Dallas and El Paso, and acceptance facilities across the state. Most Texans apply for a first passport at a post office or county clerk's office. Passport acceptance facilities

Acceptance facilities take first-time applications, children's passports and replacements for lost or stolen passports. Most post offices and county clerk offices in Texas require an appointment. Choose your city above to see the facilities nearby.

For the appointment, bring Form DS-11 unsigned, proof of U.S. citizenship such as a certified birth certificate, a photo ID with a photocopy, and one passport photo. The application fee is paid to the U.S. Department of State and the execution fee to the facility.

The Houston, Dallas and El Paso passport agencies

Houston is the closest agency for the Gulf Coast and much of South and Central Texas, Dallas for North and East Texas, and El Paso for far West Texas. All three see applicants by appointment only, and only if they travel internationally within 14 days or need a foreign visa within 28 days. Bring proof of travel. How to book an agency appointment.

Birth certificates in Texas

The Texas Department of State Health Services, Vital Statistics Section in Austin, has birth records for births in Texas from 1903 to the present. A certified birth certificate costs $22. You can order online through Texas.gov, by mail, or in person at the central office in Austin. Many county clerks and local registrars also issue birth certificates, and some can print certificates for births anywhere in Texas.

Texas birth records are confidential for 75 years. Until then, only a qualified applicant can get a certified copy: the person named on the certificate, an immediate family member by blood or marriage, a legal guardian, or a legal representative.
